“ I’ve not found how I'm doing to be a productive question. And I’ve only found not worrying about how I'm doing to be a liberating answer. The best effect zazen can have on us is to get us to relax about outcomes while still trying harder. Is that too much to ask of a human? ” - Dave Cuomo
Hello Sangha!
Ok, maybe we’re jumping the New Year’s gun a little. But! The year is winding down and after tomorrow’s sit we are taking a quick winter break for the holidays so forgive us for feeling a little festive.
But first! We want to bask in the the reflective spirit for a moment to say thank you all for everything this year! For taking part and creating this little sangha with us. A lot happened over here, as we’re sure happened for you wherever you are and we’re just so grateful to get to share all that with you. This big news is we managed to exceed our year end fundraiser goals! Which was extra important this year, so a huge shout out and thank you to everyone who took part. Your thank yous are in the mail. And in the air, everywhere.
We will be back here next week with a look ahead at all the big things happening in 2025, including new events on the schedule and other wonderful things to look forward to. But for now! Break or no, there is so much to look forward to right now:
Holiday Schedule for the next two weeks:
Open tomorrow Saturday 12/21 10am for our usual Saturday morning Sit & Discussion with Chris Arnett!
We will be closed for Winter Break Monday 12/23 - Monday 12/30 (mostly)
With the exception of our annual Christmas Morning Sit - In person and on zoom! (simple silent zazen, Wednesday 12/25 7am - 8am. )
Open Tuesday Evening 12/31 for our annual NYE sit. (8pm - midnight. Including the annual ringing of 108 bells)
Closed Wednesday 1/1 - New Year’s Day
Reopen Thursday 1/2 with our full and newly expanded schedule (did someone say Thursday evening sit?? Stay tuned…)
But speaking of sitting up to get down, this week on the podcast we are very pleased to bring you The Raw Impulse of Inspiration (Body/Mind Practice) w/ Dave Cuomo. Dave brings us a clear and lucid roadmap to working through the mind and body in zazen, from distracted self to senseless samadhi through a recently unearthed recording of a foundational practice discussion with his old teacher, Michael Elliston. How can consciousness let go of its own consciousness? Is breath practice mortally dangerous actually? And if the willful mind is an illusion, who put it up to that, who’s really calling the shots, and… can we have a word with them?? Find out here!
