Hello Sangha!
It’s getting to be just about quittin’ time over here, as we’re closing up shop for a week after tomorrow’s events.
Your humble caretaker was trying to think of something clever to say here about the importance of taking time off, but alas, a search for the word “vacation” yielded no results in Dogen’s Shobogenzo, Suzuki’s Zen Mind, Beginners Mind, Okumura’s Living By Vow, Uchiyama’s Opening the Hand of Thought, or even Norman Fischer’s last few books!! Jeez, these old Zen masters really need to learn how to chill, huh? 🤓
We’re still here for another day, though, and maybe even some more bad Zen jokes, so come on out!
Tomorrow we’ll have our usual sit & talk at 10 am, and then at 1 pm we’ve got Zen Writing Workshop, our monthly facilitated exercise in tapping into your creative flow. So join us and get your fill of good old fashioned dharma, zazen, and camaraderie before we head out.
And don’t forget to mark your calendars for our fall kickoff events upon our return!

Saturday, 9/12 from 7am - 6:10pm - Zazenkai, our quarterly day-long retreat (this time with a special theme of Avalokiteshvara’s listening practice)

Sit & Talk w/ Dave Cuomo - Our biggest day of the week! We’ll do two half-hour rounds of zazen, and then Dave takes the hotseat for a brass tacks talk about meditation practice, how to make effortlessness work for you, and how (and why) to follow any instruction you like as no instruction at all. See you there!
Saturday - 8/22, 1pm - 3:30pm
Zen Writing Workshop - Join us for ACZC’s signature mashup of zazen, freewriting, deep listening, and creative practice with friends! All are welcome, no previous writing experience required. Just bring a pen and a notebook and we’ll guide you through the rest.
